Healing From Infidelity
by Michele Weiner-Davis, M.S.W.
This book is a practical guide to help you and your partner heal from infidelity in your relationship. What I love most about this book is how the author talks about defining what betrayal is in your relationship, as everyone has differing levels of comfort; I use this with couple counseling clients, whether there is infidelity issues or not. The other aspect of this book that is helpful is the tasks lists for both the betrayed spouse and the unfaithful spouse. I often hear clients struggling to build trust and be able to communicate after a betrayal; this book provides both people with similar vocabulary to discuss what happened and appropriate expectations of what might be needed to improve the relationship.

Please note that this book is pro-marriage and does encourage the couple to continue working on the relationship. This book also is geared towards heterosexual, non-polyamorous relationships; that being said, I think it has helpful information that someone in an alternative relationship could benefit from.

Setting Boundaries That Stick: How neurobiology can help you rewire your brain to feel safe, connected, and empowered
by Juliane Taylor Shore LMFT LPC SEP (Author), Rebecca Wong LCSW-R (Foreword)
"This has quickly become my favorite boundary book to recommend. Usually when we think about boundaries, we think about how to set them with other people; this book covers external AND internal boundaries to help people manage their emotions and quite the inner critic. It has really great journal prompt to help the reader understand the material and put healthy boundaries in place."

Good Inside: A guide to becoming the parent you want to be
by Dr. Becky Kennedy
"It's primarily a parenting book, but is also such a beautiful exploration of connection and attunement. Dr. Kennedy explores the power of approaching people with the fundamental belief that they are good inside and trying their best with the resources they've been provided. This book is an essential guidebook to building stronger connection with your kids, partner, or anyone else."

ADHD 2.0
by Edward Hallowell and John Ratey
This is an easy-to-read book with a wealth of information about the newest findings about ADHD. The authors provide detailed information about medications options, both old and new. I really love how much information is provided about the neuroscience of ADHD brains, and alternatives to medications that can help both kids and adults living with ADHD.

How Yoga Works
by Geshe Michael Roach
"I've recently re-read this one, which was required for yoga teacher training. It explains Patanjali's Yoga Sutras through a fictional story and illustrates that physical practice is just one component of yoga philosophy. The moral of the story is that practicing kindness toward all beings brings freedom from suffering.  Practicing kindness comes up in therapy often, usually in relation to self-compassion, so these ancient teachings are quite informative in that way."

Hormone Havoc by Terri Deneui
I am an advocate for a holistic approach to overall health, and this book provides just that for men and women alike. Dr. Deneui offers a comprehensive overview of how hormones affect our physical health, as well as their psychological and emotional impact on our overall well-being. She dispels common misconceptions about hormones and encourages readers to make informed decisions about their health in a way that is not only accessible for practitioners, but also the average person.

Discipline is Destiny by Ryan Holiday
Through practical tips and historical examples of leaders throughout history, Holiday reminds us that to master anything, we must first master our own emotions, thoughts, and actions. He highlights the power of both self-discipline and balance, two topics I am very passionate about. What I enjoyed most about this book is the reminder that discipline is the foundation of all success and shows us ways that we can practically and realistically implement discipline despite any personal shortcomings, unfavorable environments, or adverse past experiences.
