Rosanna Santiago, M.Ed., LPC, NCC

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (TX# 69871), School Counselor and dance instructor.  I provide individual, couple, family and group counseling with these guiding principles:

  • Changing what we do is key to changing how we feel and to getting what we want.
  • Focus on the here and now.
  • All problems have exceptions.
  • Find what works and do more of it.
  • Small changes can lead to big results.
  • Everyone can dance!
I taught both elementary and middle school students before receiving my Master of Education in Counseling from the University of North Texas where I focused on Play Therapy.  I have been a Middle School Counselor for the past 5 years where I developed the Middle School curriculum and built a comprehensive counseling program from the ground up, and I've now moved into a new role as a High School Counselor.  My work in schools has allowed me to become familiar with the social, emotional and academic struggles that children face in today's world.  Peer relationships, academic struggles and parent-child communication are common areas of concern.

I enjoy working with families, couples, and individuals experiencing a wide range of difficulties. I work with children as young as age 5 using Play Therapy. Play Therapy is a structured, theoretical approach that builds on a child’s learning and communicative process using toys and other familiar objects. Play Therapy helps children articulate their thoughts and feelings using play when they do not yet have the verbal ability to express themselves. Some benefits of Play Therapy include:
  • Children are able to communicate thoughts/feelings using their language of play
  • Children learn to modify behavior
  • Children develop problem-solving skills
  • Children learn social skills and relational family skills.
I have also worked extensively with self-injury in teens.  Self-injury, sometimes referred to as self-harm or self-abuse, is the intentional infliction of injury to one’s body. During sessions, clients re-learn to associate feelings of sadness, stress, and anger with healthy coping strategies rather than self-injury. Techniques used during therapy to decrease self-injury:
  • Thought records
  • Self-care
  • Safety contracts
  • Delay strategies
  • Work on boundaries and self-esteem building
  • Develop plans for triggers of SI behavior and alternatives to use
It can be challenging to see hope in the midst of chaos and struggles as we are facing them, and I look forward to navigating with you through your current circumstances. I strive to learn about your unique situation, and establish goals together in order for you to be the best version of yourself. We all have a story and present circumstances that do not have to dictate our future.
